How I handle anxiety before an event

I feel like this is something most people tend to get on all different levels when facing a big event or new situation.

It can even be as simple as going to a new café and you’re unsure on parking or driving to a big city for the first time.

It can also be a big event like public speaking, your first board meeting as the new manager or your first game back from injury.

Whatever you situation we all tend to feel really anxious about the unknown possibilities.

A trick I have used over the past 2 years when it comes to public speaking and my first game back from injury is just changing our mindset and what we say to ourselves.

The common response to give someone who is suffering from this anxious feeling is to tell them to calm down but they’re in such a high state of anxiousness that this can be impossible for some.

So instead of saying calm down and breath either to a friend or yourself try switching the communication to “I’m so excited I get to play again” or “I’m pumped I get to go to the city to go shopping” or “I’m so happy I get to now be a manager and talk to my colleagues”.

This keeps us in that high state of arousal but is switching it from a negative to a positive!

I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me.
