Kids and a meltdown
Share
When kids have a meltdown, they can’t think of anything else. Their brains aren’t fully developed to understand anything else during this reaction.
They may not feel safe, they may not feel heard, or they may simply be upset because as a kid we experience emotions on many levels for the first time.
We need to not raise out voice, talk down too or disregard their emotions and this situation.
We need to hold them, we need to reassure them, we need to sympathise with them.
It is that simple. Calm them down, listen to them, understand how they view things are different to how we view things. We have 30+ years of emotional experience.
Plus remember as adults we still have meltdowns so why isn’t it ok for a young child to have a meltdown? It’s a part of life…
